![]() ![]() I called Budget, and was told that they will actually have a SUV delivered from the airport location to the office that I have reserved for pick-up. When I checked my reservation on the car rental company website, I found that Southwest had actually put us in a compact SUV, which I had to cancel, since we need a larger vehicle for this trip. One thing I noticed about the "new" Southwest website - there is only one category of SUV now (vs. Originally I had reserved an SUV through Southwest through another carrier. I'll be saving almost $300 more by picking up and dropping off the car at an off-airport location. I'm not so fortunate, although Budget had the best price by far ($1100 at the PDX airport vs. But I am afraid that a truck rental site may be a bust. We'll be on the road for 18 days, and the off-airport rate for a full-size SUV (including all taxes and fees) is just over $800, so it would justify some cab fares and a little delay. But it would take longer to pick the car up, meaning that 3 of us would wait at the airport with the luggage waiting for the driver to come back. Does anybody have experience with using this facility for car rentals? The other choice is downtown, which would probably be good from a departure perspective, since we plan to spend our last 2 nights there. I did make a reservation at the closer one (3400 NE Columbia), but notice when checking it out that it is mainly a Budget trunk rental facility. The price difference is too great to pass up, but I would also like to choose an option that will be fairly convenient. We found good rates at Budget, which lists several close non-airport sites - one is about 4.5 miles from the airport (3400 Northeast Columbia Blvd.) and one is downtown (2033 Southwest 4th Ave.), about 12 miles. The rates are pretty high, and I found I can save at least $200 by renting off airport. We're flying into Portland (Oregon) this September and need to rent an SUV. Hi all - looking for a little guidance on rental cars in the Portland airport area.
